Sled team notches two wins
LITTLETON, Colo. – The U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team earned a pair of victories here tonight in its first Western Sled Hockey League action of the season. Team USA blanked Phoenix, 10-0, in its morning game before knocking off Utah, 5-2, in the evening. The U.S. concludes the weekend series Saturday (Oct. 10) with games against Phoenix (9:15 a.m. MT) and Colorado (4:45 p.m. MT) at the Edge Ice Arena in Littleton, Colo.

LITTLETON, Colo. - Defenseman Danny McDevitt (Abington, Pa.) recorded a hat trick as the U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team defeated Phoenix, 10-0, here today in Team USA's first Western Sled Hockey League action of the season.
In the first period, Team USA netted three goals, including McDevitt's first tally and two markers from Anthony Kuntz (West Hartford, Conn.). McDevitt added his only assist of the afternoon on Kuntz's second goal.
Team USA continued its attack with four goals in the second frame, including two markers fromMason Newbold (Lockport, N.Y.). McDevitt answered Newbold's pair with two of his own as he completed the hat trick with his second and third goal of the game. Kuntz assisted on both of McDevitt's goals and Daniel McCoy (Cheswick, Pa.) registered an assist on the Abington, Pa., native's second tally of the game.
Three different players netted goals in the final frame, including John Mollica's (The Plains, Ohio) marker that was assisted by Raymond Beck (Sicklerville, N.J.) and Ryan Pelletier(Columbia, Conn.). Beck then added his own goal, with an assist from Pelletier, before Kevin McKee's (Eldridge, Iowa) tally from Beck closed out the scoring.
Both U.S. netminders Danny Hefley (Wexford, Pa.) and Chuck Dury (Raymond, Ohio) saw action in the game, making a combined seven saves in the victory.

With 46 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Anthony Kuntz's (West Hartford, Conn.) goal from McCoy and John Mollica (The Plains, Ohio) gave Team USA a 1-0 lead.
Utah answered early in the second period with a goal by John Bryan and gained a 2-1 advantage over the U.S. with a tally from J.C. Weeks at 8:22. U.S. National Sled Hockey Team memberGreg Shaw (Park City, Utah) registered an assist on the play.
Team USA responded with three goals in the final five minutes of the second period. McCoy tallied his first goal of the game from Conner Fee (Spotswood, N.J.) and McDevitt before Ryan Pelletier's (Columbia, Conn.) marker gave Team USA a 3-2 lead. Kevin McKee (Eldridge, Iowa) put the U.S. ahead, 4-2, heading into the final frame.
In the third period, Mason Newbold's (Lockport, N.Y.) goal from McDevitt and Kuntz at 12:10 accounted for the 5-2 final.
U.S. netminder Danny Hefley (Wexford, Pa.) collected 10 saves in the victory.
