Sled team picks up two wins
VOORHEES, N.J. - The U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team earned a pair of shutout wins against Utah and Colorado in Western Sled Hockey League play here today. The U.S. topped Utah, 6-0, in a morning affair before knocking off Colorado, 8-0, this evening.
Kevin McKee (Eldridge, Iowa) paced Team USA with nine points (4-5), while goalies Danny Hefley (Wexford, Pa.) and Chuck Dury (Raymond, Ohio) each logged shutout victories.
U.S. NAT'L JUINIOR SLED HOCKEY TEAM SHUTS OUT UTAH, 6-0
Kevin McKee (Eldridge, Iowa) tallied four points (2-2) to pace the U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team's 6-0 victory against Utah here today.
Team USA took an early 1-0 when Anthony Kuntz (West Hartford, Conn.) found the back of net at 0:28. John Mollica (The Plains, Ohio) and Danny McDevitt (Abington, Pa.) collected assists on the play. Less than two minutes later, McKee netted his first goal of the game to give the U.S. a 2-0 advantage.
In the middle stanza, Raymond Beck (Sicklerville, N.J.) made it 3-0 with his goal from McKee and Santos at 4:49. McKee added his second goal of the game with less than five minutes remaining in the period, and Mollica added his own marker from Kuntz at 11:08 to close out the frame's scoring.
U.S. netminder Danny Hefley (Wexford, Pa.) earned the shutout, turning aside all three shots faced as Team USA cruised to a 6-0 final.
U.S. NAT'L JUINIOR SLED HOCKEY TEAM BLANKS COLORADO, 8-0
The U.S. National Junior Team allowed scored five second-period goals en route to an 8-0 victory over Colorado here today. Kevin McKee (Eldridge, Iowa) collected five points on the night and Raymond Beck (Sicklerville, N.J.) potted three goals, as Team USA improved to 2-0-0-0 at this weekend's Western Sled Hockey League tournament.
McKee began the night's scoring with an unassisted tally at 6:13 of the first period. Raymond Beck (Sicklerville, N.J.) then talled back-to-back goals for Team USA to give his squad a 3-0 lead less than one minute into the second period.
Following a pair of U.S. goals, Beck added his third tally of the night at 12:48 of the second period. Anthony Kuntz (West Hartford, Conn.) gave Team USA a 6-0 lead heading into the third period with an unassisted tally with less than one minute remaining in the frame.
Team USA closed out the game with third-period goals by Mason Newbold (Lockport, N.Y.) and McKee. U.S. goalie Chuck Dury (Raymond, Ohio) logged four saves in his shutout effort.
