Coyotes pick named to Czech World Junior team
Martin Hanzal was selected by the Coyotes in the first round (17th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Phoenix Coyotes prospect Martin Hanzal has been selected to play for the Czech Republic at the 2007 World Junior Championships. The tournament will be played in Sweden from Dec. 26 - Jan. 5. Hanzal was selected by the Coyotes in the first round (17th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Hanzal, 19, also competed for the Czech Republic in the 2006 World Junior Championships in British Columbia and collected two assists in six games. The forward also registered 4-3-7 and was a plus-7 in seven games at the 2005 Under-18 World Junior Championships.
Hanzal has registered 15-33-48 in 32 games with Red Deer of the WHL this season to rank second in the league in both points and assists. The 6-foot-5, 208-pound native of Pisek, Czech Republic was recently named the WHL Player of the Week when he registered 2-6-8 in three games from Nov. 21-26. Hanzal's Red Deer Rebels are 17-11-1-2 this season.
