Sundogs fall to Americans in OT

PRESCOTT VALLEY – The Arizona Sundogs extended their consecutive one-goal games streak to 12 contests with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Allen Americans Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center.

Konrad Reeder tallied his second goal of the contest with 5.2 remaining in regulation to force overtime before Bruce Graham earned the game's second point with his second of the game 1:06 into the extra session.

With possession in the neutral zone, Graham split the Sundogs defense and reached a shot five-hole through Groenestege as the netminder threw a poke check attempt.

Graham factored into each of Allen's three scores, finishing with two goals and an assist.

Arizona earned its first point against the expansion Americans in five meetings in the overtime loss.

Mike Salekin gave the Americans a 1-0 lead late in the opening frame after the two teams skated in an evenly-contested first period.

Converting on a Graham rebound, Salekin slapped a backhand effort from the slot over Groenestege at the 16:54 mark for a one-goal cushion heading into the first intermission. Colton Yellow Horn picked up one of his two assists on the night on the play.

Reeder evened the score just 20 seconds into the middle frame, redirecting an Andrew Winnik shot from the point over Chris Whitley at the near post.

Graham reclaimed a one-goal lead for Allen six minutes later on assists from Musitelli and Yellow Horn.

Recently-signed forward Adam Smyth collected the team's first fight at Tim's Toyota Center since a 5-1 win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on January 2, dropping the gloves with Liam Huculak near the Americans' player bench two minutes into game.

Arizona outshot the Americans 28-25 in the contest including 13-6 in the third period. Groenestege finished 22 saves while Whitley turned aside 26 shots. The Sundogs finished 0-for-3 with the man-advantage. Allen was held scoreless on two power plays.

The Sundogs have played in a league-leading 28 one-goal games this season and have dropped a league-high 19 games by a single marker.

Arizona in 0-5 in overtime games this season and remains winless at home in eight contests (0-6-2) since a 2-0 win over the Amarillo Gorillas on January 6.
