Coyotes claim Perrault on waivers; Jones to AHL
The Phoenix Coyotes have claimed center Joel Perrault on waivers from the St. Louis Blues. Perrault will report to the Coyotes today.
The 6-foot-1, 197-pound Perrault was claimed on waivers by the Blues on Oct. 31, 2006. Perrault has played nine games with the Coyotes this season, collecting 1-1-2 and eight penalty minutes (PIM). In 11 games with the Blues, Perrault did not record any points. He also played two games with Peoria (AHL), recording 0-2-2 and seven PIM.
The 23-year-old native of Montreal was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks (fifth round, 137th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Perrault was originally acquired by the Coyotes on March 9, 2006 from Anaheim in exchange for Sean O'Donnell.
In other news, the Coyotes have assigned defenseman Matt Jones to the San Antonio Rampage, the Coyotes' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
Jones, 23, has registered 1-2-3 and eight penalty minutes (PIM) in 12 games with the Coyotes this season. The 6-foot, 215-pound defenseman scored his first career NHL goal versus the New York Rangers on Oct. 28. Jones has also collected one assist and 21 PIM in 16 games with San Antonio.
As a first-year professional last season, the native of Downers Grove, Ill., recorded two assists and 14 PIM in 16 games with the Coyotes.
The Coyotes selected Jones in the third round (80th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
