Sting advances to Champion's Cup
Dan Dawson and the Sting captured their second division title in three seasons and will play the Rochester Knighthawks for the NLL's Champion's Cup on May 12 (venue TBD).
The Arizona Sting will play in the Champion's Cup final for the second time in the past three seasons after a 9-7 victory over the San Jose Stealth on Saturday night.
Sting goaltender Rob Blasdell was superb in net against his former franchise, making 44 saves in the team's third consecutive Western Divisional Final appearance.
Forward Gary Rosyski led San Jose with four goals and three assists in the losing effort, which was the Stealth's first playoff berth in the team's history.
The Sting jumped out to a 7-1 lead at halftime and never trailed in the contest, which was only the four occurrence this year.
Arizona earned a spot in the Western Divisional Final after beating the two-seeded Calgary Roughnecks 13-9 last Saturday at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
This was the third straight victory for the Sting over the Stealth this season. Earlier this year, Arizona defeated San Jose 14-11 and 10-9 in regular season action.
San Jose advanced to the Western Divisional Final for the first time after beating the defending champion Colorado Mammoth, 15-14 in overtime at the Pepsi Center last weekend.
Dan Dawson contributed two goals and three assists in the win for the Sting while Andy Secore scored two goals and added an assist.
Stealth goaltender Anthony Cosmo made 28 saves on the night, while allowing all nine goals.
The Sting will participate in the Champion's Cup final on May 12 1 p.m. local time at a location to be determined.
