Leading scorer Sisca re-signs
Center Daniel Sisca, the RoadRunners leading scorer from a year ago, has re-signed for the upcoming 2008-09 season.
Sisca, 25, set two RoadRunners’ ECHL single season records in 2007-08 with 42 assists and 60 points to lead all Phoenix scorers, and amassed a career-high 110 penalty minutes in 71 games. The Woodbridge, Ontario native and fifth-year professional was named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-21, 2007, and later selected as the CCM Tacks ECHL Player of the Month for October after collecting four goals, eight points and a plus-four rating in five games.
Sisca also received his first career call-up to the American Hockey League as he appeared in two games with the Worcester Sharks.
“Daniel was a bright spot for us last year both on and off the ice,” said RoadRunners Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church. “He is a fierce competitor and we are very excited to have his skill and leadership back for the upcoming season.”
Sisca was selected to the 2005-06 ECHL All-Rookie Team following a season in which he tallied a career-high 29 goals and 79 points in 71 games with the Florida Everblades. His 79 points were good for seventh overall in the ECHL scoring race and second among ECHL rookies behind only Alaska’s Alex Leavitt.
Sisca’s breakout season in Florida came two years after he finished fifth in the Ontario Hockey League scoring race with 34 goals and 100 points in just 67 games in 2003-04 as a member of the Sarnia Sting. He has averaged close to a point per game in each of first four professional seasons with 73 goals, 125 assists, and 198 points in 212 career games.
